XFOIL Download
XFOIL is a program written in FORTRAN which helps the user analyze different types of airfoils under different flows and angles of attack. Since for the moment the XFOIL project development has been frozen, openAE is mirroring most of these downloads. XFOIL can be acquired for the following operating systems:
SOURCE FILES - Source code is platform independent and requires compilation. Source files can be downloaded from the MIT website or openAE. This package contains documentation as well. | DOWNLOAD (from openAE)
WINDOWS - Windows 32 bit binaries can be downloaded from the MIT website as well. We recommend to use XFOIL 6.96 as that is the latest build. Just a note, since XFOIL is not a performance intensive program on todays computers, Mark Drela stopped building optimized versions for Windows. | DOWNLOAD (from openAE)
MAC OS - An XFOIL package for the Mac OS system is available free to the public and can be downloaded from Apple's website. There is also an independent website started to support XFOIL for Mac called Xfoil4Mac. | DOWNLOAD (Apple)
LINUX Debian/Ubuntu - Although the Ubuntu community has long been wanting to package XFOIL and make it available through the repositories, this is still yet to happen. Giuseppe Schettini has kindly packaged a 32 bit debian package for Ubuntu 8.10 and kindly let us host his packages on our website. Two versions are available:
- XFOIL 6.96 compiled with Intel FORTRAN libraries | DOWNLOAD
- XFOIL 6.97 compiled with GNU FORTRAN libraries | DOWNLOAD
Instructions from the openAE community on how to install XFOIL in Ubuntu:
